THE GREAT Pyramid of Giza could be about to reveal its last secrets as scientists hunt for the ancient wonder’s “lost chambers”.
Experts are hoping to find and open a series of mysterious rooms believed to be hidden inside the incredible structure in Egypt.
Scientists say there are hidden “recesses” inside the pyramid which could hold secrets of the pharaohs.
The Great Pyramid – also known as the Khufu Pyramid – has been standing for more than 4,000 years.
Experts from a project known as ScanPyramids are set to use two state-of-the-art methods to uncover the legendary hidden chamber.
“All the devices we put in place are designed to find where the cavity is located. We know there is one, but we’re trying to find out where,” said Mehdi Tayoubi, from the ScanPyramids project.
The team will use thermography – which detects heat given off by objects – and muography – which detects the impact of cosmic rays – and try and find the lost chambers.
ScanPyramids hopes to unravel the final mysteries of the Great Pyramid, which is the only surviving monument of the classical Seven Wonders of the World.
One of the hidden voids are believed to be hidden on the pyramid’s northern face – which is believed to be a corridor going deep inside the structure.
A second chamber is also believed to be lurking beneath the monument’s descending corridors.
Earlier this year, experts revealed plans to find the “lost chamber” in the tomb of Tutankhamun.
